About

Hi! Welcome to Do or Debt. Thanks for reading.

I’m a late twenty something gal, trying to get out of my massive student loan debt. I graduated from undergrad with 23k in debt. I graduated from grad school with 58k in debt. That’s a total of 81k. By the time I graduated with my M.A. that number was down to 68k. Now, I am chipping away as fast as I can to try and make it all go away!

I’ve lived on both coasts, worked for many non-profits, and love learning languages. Traveling is my favorite thing to do, and one of my biggest motivations to become debt free.

I started this blog because I was frustrated reading other personal finance blogs– I could never quite relate. All the stories I read were people with much higher incomes, better lifestyles and more stuff.

I don’t have a car, health insurance, a credit card (never have!) and I’m a self-proclaimed minimalist. I share a studio with my partner and enjoy simple things like the sun (Hello, Portland), coffee, chocolate, reading, walking, biking and nerding out on personal finance blogs. This blog is my attempt at keeping myself motivated and accountable in the debt payoff process. I’m interested in finding others who are also struggling valiantly to make things work; I want to a create a community of inspiration, ideas and motivation.

I’d love to hear your story too! You are not alone. Feel free to contact me at do.or.debt@gmail.com

  1. Totally agree with Tonya (Budget and the Beach) Get on twitter! Also I have a mountain of debt (non-mortgage, close to 100k) and we don’t have a massive income! You should check out My Alternate Life- Jordann is a PF blogger who is also a self proclaimed minimalist. She also writes for Making Sense of Cents every Friday (sometimes it’s thurs) about her minimalist lifestyle.

  2. You can do this! We too are in a boatload of debt, but working s-l-o-w-l-y at getting it paid off. We just try and focus on every dime we reduce by, and celebrate it, then move on to tomorrow. 🙂
